Industry first - not migration first

International Marine Workforce Solutions for Australian Employers

We help Australian marine businesses fill critical skills gaps — from job-ready trainees to experienced marine technicians — through structured recruitment and compliant migration partnerships.

How it works

Employer Sponsorship (Subclass 482)

Australia’s marine industry is experiencing ongoing skills shortages, particularly in marine mechanical, boat building, and technical roles.
The Employer Sponsored Temporary Skill Shortage visa (Subclass 482) allows Australian marine businesses to sponsor skilled international workers where local labour is unavailable.

Marine Talent Australia supports employers by managing the recruitment, coordination, and workforce delivery, working alongside registered migration professionals who handle visa advice and applications.

What is the Subclass 482 Visa?

The Subclass 482 visa allows Australian businesses to:

  • Sponsor skilled workers from overseas
  • Fill genuine skills shortages
  • Employ workers on a temporary basis (up to 4 years)
  • Potentially support longer-term residency pathways

It is commonly used across trades, engineering, health, and technical industries — including marine.

Who Can Use This Pathway?

This pathway is suitable for:

  • Boat builders and production yards
  • Marine mechanical workshops
  • Outboard Engine dealer and service networks
  • Regional marine businesses
  • Growing marine operations with ongoing workforce needs

You do not need prior sponsorship experience to get started.

The Process - Step by Step

Step 3: Recruitment & Candidate Matching

Step 2: Employer Sponsorship Setup

Marine Talent works with you to understand:

  • The role you need to fill
  • Your workshop or production environment
  • Salary requirements
  • Timeframes and expectations

This ensures the role is suitable for sponsorship before any commitments are made.

To sponsor a worker, your business must be approved as a sponsor.

This includes:

  • Confirming your business is lawful and operating
  • Demonstrating a genuine need for the role
  • Meeting sponsorship obligations

Sponsorship approval is typically valid for 5 years.

Step 3: Recruitment & Candidate Matching

Step 3: Recruitment & Candidate Matching

 Once a candidate is selected:

  • The role is formally nominated
  • The worker applies for their visa
  • Mandatory checks are completed (medical, police, skills, etc.)

This stage is handled by registered migration professionals, with Marine Talent coordinating timelines and communication.

Step 5: Arrival & Onboarding

Step 4: Nomination & Visa Application

 After visa approval:

  • The worker relocates to Australia
  • Commences employment
  • Marine Talent supports early-stage onboarding and employer communication

Mandatory Costs – Who Pays What?

Some costs are mandatory under Australian law. These are not optional.

Government Fees (Employer Paid)

Employers are required to pay government charges, including:

  • Sponsorship application fee
  • Nomination fee
  • Visa application charge
  • Skilling Australians Fund (SAF) Levy (annual)

These fees are set by the Australian Government and cannot be altered.

Current government fees:

Migration Professional Fees (Employer or Candidate Paid)

The sponsorship and visa process must be managed by a registered migration professional who is authorised to provide migration advice and lodge applications.

Migration professional fees typically cover:

  • Sponsorship approval
  • Nomination preparation
  • Visa application management
  • Compliance and liaison with the Department of Home Affairs

These fees are charged separately by the migration professional and are not government fees.

Marine Talent does not provide migration advice or lodge visa applications. We work alongside registered migration professionals to ensure the recruitment and workforce process aligns with migration requirements.

Marine Talent Recruitment Services (Employer Paid)

Marine Talent charges a professional fee for managing the recruitment and workforce delivery side of the process.

This includes:

  • Marine-specific candidate sourcing and screening
  • Interview coordination and employer matching
  • Role and workforce suitability assessment
  • Candidate readiness coordination
  • Ongoing employer support and communication

Marine Talent’s fees are separate from government charges and migration professional fees and are discussed transparently with employers before proceeding.

Additional Required Checks

As part of the visa process, sponsored workers may be required to complete:

  • Medical examinations
  • Police checks
  • Skills or experience assessments
  • English language testing (where applicable)

These checks are mandated by the Department of Home Affairs and are usually paid by the candidate or employer, depending on individual arrangements.
